FDA HEAD GOTTLIEB RESIGNS AMID OPIOID SCANDAL

 In News, Pharma

Yesterday, the Head of the FDA Scott GOTTLIEB resigned, according to the New York Times.

Scott Gottlieb was a pharmaceutical industry insider from day one, but his overzealous approvals of medications — sometimes controversial drugs — finally caught up with him.

Last weekend, 60 Minutes aired a damning report that interviews the CEO of an opioid-producing drug company that blames the FDA for the opioid epidemic.

This must-watch video explains that just a few months ago under Gottlieb’s leadership, the FDA approved a controversial new opioid that is 1000x more potent than Morphine. This drug called Dsuvia has been controversial from the start and this approval came at a time when multiple states are suing drug companies for the opioid crisis. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also released a report showing that prescription drugs were responsible for the most overdose deaths of any illicit drugs since 2001.

How did a drug far more dangerous than the ones already causing massive opioid deaths get approved in the middle of this scandal?

This 60 Minutes report details the corruption that has plagued the FDA for years.

You could replace the word Opioid with vaccine every time it’s said and the story would still be entirely valid. It’s all the same machine working tirelessly to keep you a customer.
