Meningitis: A Dangerous Side Effect of Vaccines? A Look at the Science

 In News, Vaccine Info

A recent study, published in the Journal of the American Academy of Neurology, reviewed 722 cases of meningitis reported after vaccination in the United States during a 20-year period from 1990 to 2010.

The study reported that most cases of meningitis began within six weeks of vaccination in 415 cases, 327 of these cases began within two weeks of vaccination. Hospitalization and [permanent] disability were reported in 549 and 50 patients, respectively.

What particular vaccines triggered this disease?

Shockingly, nearly half of the meningitis cases — 314 to be exact — were reported after Hemophilus influenza b (HIB) vaccination, a vaccine that’s promoted to REDUCE meningitis cases. In fact, doctors claim HIB infection is the main cause of meningitis. Yet the HIB vaccine is also the vaccine that’s linked with the most cases of meningitis. Clearly, there is more to the story than what parents are told.

The study results also showed meningitis cases following other vaccines:

— 115 cases after administration of the Hepatitis B vaccine

— 114 after oral polio vaccination

— 193 after DTP or DTaP (Diphtheria, (acellular)Tetanus Toxoid, and Pertussis) vaccination

— 88 cases after PNC (heptavalent Pneumococcal protein conjugate) vaccination

— 84 cases after MMR vaccination, and 67 cases after IPV (Inactivated poliovirus) vaccination

Another study (published in the Lancet) conducted in the U.K. also found a link between aseptic meningitis after the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine in U.K. children.

Cases of aseptic meningitis associated with measles/mumps/rubella vaccine (MMR) were sought in thirteen U.K. health districts following a reported cluster in Nottingham, which suggested a risk of 1 in 4000 doses, substantially higher than previous estimates based on cases reported by pediatricians (4 per million).

Cases were ascertained by obtaining vaccination records of children with aseptic meningitis diagnosed from cerebrospinal fluid samples submitted to Public Health Laboratories or discharged from the hospital with a diagnosis of viral meningitis.

Both methods identified vaccination 15-35 days before onset as a significant risk factor and therefore indicative of a causal association. The study confirmed that the true risk was substantially higher than suggested by case reports from pediatricians, probably about 1 in 11, 000 doses.

In fact, HALF the aseptic meningitis cases identified in children aged 12-24 months were VACCINE-ASSOCIATED with onset 15-35 days after vaccine.”

Are vaccine really that “safe”?

Pharmaceutical companies still claim that vaccines are almost 100% “safe”, but how safe are they actually when they’re triggering meningitis — a disease that can lead to death or permanent disability?

And it’s not one particular vaccine either that is triggering this response. The Hepatitis B, polio, DTP/DTaP, Pneumonccocal, MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella) vaccines have all been reported to stimulate this serious adverse reaction.
